Sugar Beach Viceroy Resort, an iconic holiday retreat serving Saint Lucia in the Carribean, has been given an update by Botelho Wood Architects, with upgraded exteriors that blend lighter timber accents with locally sourced stone. The crowning feature of these exteriors are the elements of architectural glazing that IQ International installed in the original build, which remain a cornerstone of the resort’s overall appeal.
Perched 20 feet above sea level, these villas required glazing that could withstand harsh coastal conditions and tropical storms. IQ International worked closely with the project’s architects to install a range of solutions, from slim-framed aluminium casement windows to minimal windows® sliding doors, for unobstructed tropical views. In some areas, structural glazing was used to give a frameless finish that saturates natural light inside, and highlights the resort’s stunning scenery outside.
One of the most distinctive features remains the automated louvre roof systems. Powder-coated to blend seamlessly with the villas, these louvres can be adjusted at the touch of a button, to allow for varying degrees of sunlight or complete shade. This detail is particularly appreciated in the open-air living areas leading to private infinity pools, ensuring guests can enjoy the island’s climate throughout the day.
Despite the new design changes, the hurricane certified glazing IQ International originally installed stands strong, and continues to shape the character of the villas. Even now the once-dominant mahogany timber façades have been replaced with stone, the combination of large sliding doors, casement windows and louvre roofs keep the vibrant natural setting centre stage. That’s where IQ International delivers; we don’t just bring you glass, we bring you the beautiful spaces beyond it.
