Oversized sliding glass doors create wrap-around glass façade for penthouse apartment

This modern penthouse apartment in Brussels offers panoramic views thanks to oversized sliding glass doors that wrap around the top floor, creating sliding glass walls in the rooftop extension of this historical Brussels building.

Triple glazed sliding doors were specified to create a better insulated internal space, using the minimal windows® 4+ framing profiles which achieve unparalleled performance values whilst maintaining a minimal 26mm sightline.

With a high level of thermal efficiency, these sliding doors in Brussels help to maintain a comfortable temperature in the internal spaces all year round.

These floor to ceiling glass doors allow in a vast amount of natural light throughout the year whilst also providing stunning key views of the city of Brussels and its key historical buildings.

The triple glazed 4+ system also has been tested to high levels of wind resistance which is required for these upper floor buildings. With resistance against cyclic wind pressures of up to 3510 Pa, the glass walls of the penthouse are extremely resilient to high wind loads and driving rain.

Concealing the head and base frame within the building finishes results in a floor to ceiling glass finish and an ultra minimal design. The recessed base track of the oversized sliding glass doors results in a completely flush threshold, offering step-free access between the infoor and outdoors spaces.

Frameless structural glass balustrades keep the homeowners safe without interrupting the key view or natural light. The laminated structural glass balustrades provide high levels of safety as even if broken, the interlayer will help to keep the glass upright.

Very minimal and modern interior design is used for the indoor space. The same material for the floor of both the indoor and outdoor environments was chosen to allow the indoor and outdoor spaces to be completely merged when the oversized sliding doors are open.

Unusual shaped furniture supports the modernist look in the sitting area with a bar and billiard table. The privacy for the penthouse owners is provided by the same length curtains with the large minimal sliding glass doors.
