Hurricane Certified Sliding Glass Doors | IQ Glass International

Hurricane Certified Sliding Glass Doors

We are delighted to announce that the Keller minimal windows are now hurricane certified sliding glass doors.

With our international projects being in key locations such as the Caribbean and America, it is imperative that we comply with the Miami Dade codes. The Keller minimal windows 4+ system have had hurricane certification since 2013

Our standard minimal windows sliding glass doors now achieve the same performance level and are fully certified for hurricane resistance under the same TAS testing criteria – https://www.iqglassuk.com/technical-advice/hurricane-resistant-glazing-systems-for-extremely-high-wind-load-areas/s88807/ This new added certification applies to both our fixed and sliding minimal windows.

Key features of hurricane certified sliding doors include:

Strong frames – Ours are hurricane resistant with the slimmest style frame

Enhanced seals – Greater protection against winds

Now Resistant glass – For fully clear openings

TAS 201, 202, and 203 Testing

The minimal windows systems were successfully tested: fixed, sliding-fixed and sliding-sliding-fixed. These were tested in accordance with the following standards:

  1. TAS 201 – Impact Test Procedure
  1. TAS 202 – Criteria for Testing Impact & Non-Impact Resistant Building Envelope Components Using Uniform Static Air Pressure
  1. TAS 203 – Criteria for Testing Products Subject to Cyclic Wind Pressure

Tas 201, 202 and 203 are established by the Miami-Dade code to ensure the performance of building materials, particularly in hurricane-prone areas.

These tests are vital for products like sliding doors to see if they can withstand the extreme conditions during a hurricane. When choosing hurricane certified sliding glass doors, it’s important to look for products that have been fully certified to meet these standards.

Passing these tests indicate that the sliding doors can handle the extreme conditions during a hurricane, and also provide safety and protection. The beauty of the minimal windows slim sliding doors is their slim frames and resistant glass meaning no shutters would be required, due the resistant glass which has greater resistance to hurricanes and strong winds.
