Swimming Pool Glazing

Swimming pool glazing can mean many things, it way be an actual glass pool, glass for the areas around a pool or a glass pool house.

Glass Swimming Pools

Glazing can be used to create the actual pool itself. Whether it’s a glass corner to a pool, a glass bottom pool or completely glass pool.

Structural glazing is such a flexible solution and by laminating multiple panes of structural glass together and bonding with a structural silicone, this can be used to house large bodies of chlorinated water.

Glass Around Swimming Pools

When glazing solutions are specified for nearby swimming pools, there are extra considerations.

If any glazing solutions are installed within 2m or a swimming pool they must be toughened and laminated. If it is single glazed, then it must be laminated and in an IGU the pane nearest to the pool must be laminated.

This is because if it breaks the glass will shatter into small pieces unlikely to cause severe injury and the lamination would hold any broken glass in place to prevent it from entering the pool and injuring someone or damaging the filtration system.

Glass Pool House

Many luxury homes with outdoor pools have pool houses, and highly glazed pool house designs allow the interior space to have a strong connection with the surrounding pool area.

Each glass pool house will be completely bespoke and utilise different architectural glazing solutions, so to discuss system details and performance values for your specific project, talk to the IQ team.

Marine Grade Glazing

Due to the harsher environment around pools, we would always recommend specifying frameless or aluminium glazing as opposed to steel. Aluminium has natural rust and corrosion resistant properties, whereas steel is prone to this in areas with high moisture levels or chemicals.

IQ uses marine grade polyester powder coating as standard, and for glazing located by swimming pools or the sea, we recommend pre-anodizing the frames.
